Cathaoirleach Killian to seek nomination for Europe elections

Meath County Council Cathaoirleach Nick Killian is to seek the Fianna Fail nomination for the European elections next summer. Cllr Killian, who lives in Ratoath, indicated that he would be seeking the nomination at the party"s convention in the autumn and would be talking to party members in Leinster over the summer period. 'I am hoping to share the party ticket with MEP Liam Aylward, and to win back a second seat in Leinster for Fianna Fail,' he said. Cllr Killian, who has been a member of Meath County Council since 1999, said he would be seeking the support of his council colleagues and the cumanns in Meath as well as Fianna Fail cumanns in Louth Offaly and Kildare. He pledged to run a strong campaign to ensure a second seat for Fianna Fail if he received the party nomination. Cllr Killian was born in Westmeath, raised in Dublin and has been living in Ratoath for the past 34 years. He is married to Anne and they have six children. Cllr Killian is the general manager of the Ratoath Community Centre and was formerly the CEO of the Irish Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. He still has a strong interest in the disability sector and was involved with the construction of the new independent living housing units in Ratoath and has been a strong advocate for people with disabilities at county council level. Cllr Killian is a former President of the National Parents" Council (post primary), is a member of Meath VEC and vice-chairman of the governing body of the Blanchardstown Institute of Technology. He is also the chairman of Ratoath College Board of Management and is a director of Meath Tourism.
