Death of former Carnaross parish priest, Fr Paddy Casey

The death has occurred in Mullingar of the retired parish priest of Carnaross, Fr Paddy Casey. He was aged 90.

Mullingar native Fr Casey was educated at St Mary’s CBS and St Finian’s College in the town and later at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth.

He was ordained on 1st May 1955 in Mullingar and ministered in Dunboyne, Christ the King parish in Tampa, Florida, Castletown-Kilpatrick, Drumraney, St Francis Hansworth (Birmingham), Dunderry and Kinnegad.

He was appointed Parish Priest of Carnaross in 1983 where he served until his retirement in September 2008.

Following his retirement, he returned to live in Mullingar and moved to Newbrook Nursing Home in April 2019 where he died peacefully yesterday.

Son of the late James and Mary Anne; predeceased by his brothers Jimmy, Mike and John and sisters-in-law May and Lily; he is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary (Tullamore), nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, relatives, friends, Bishop Tom Deenihan, Bishop Michael Smith and his fellow priests and parishioners of the Dioceses of Meath.

Reposing in the Cathedral of Christ the King on Friday evening from 6pm – 7.30 pm. Requiem Mass is on Saturday at 11 am.

Due to pandemic restrictions, Fr Casey’s Requiem Mass will be live-streamed on www.mullingarparish.ie/livestream. Fr Casey will be buried in Walshestown Cemetery, Mullingar.
