Extension to Local Link bus services welcomed

Local Link Flexibus have announced the extension of their Bohermeen-Navan service to Fordstown and Cortown.

The extended service will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the vehicle is wheelchair accessible.

The bus will travel into Navan by the Retail Park and can drop off at various stops along the way including supermarkets, shopping centre, Navan Terminus so passengers can connect to Cavan, Dublin, Drogheda and Trim. The bus will also stop and collect at Our Lady’s Hospital Navan.

Cllr Mike Bray welcomed the announcement and stated it will be a great benefit for the local area.

“There is no public transport service in the Fordstown and Cortown areas so this new service will be a great benefit to those who do not have transport of their own and need to get to town for shopping, medical appointments and other tasks.

“The Flexibus service will give people more options in our small rural community.

“For those who live a bit further away from the post office in Fordstown or the church in Cortown, they can call Local Link the day before to arrange collection at their house.

“It is important that the bus is used in the coming months as the service is only in place on a trial basis for the summer months and it will be reviewed after that, said Cllr Bray.

“I want to thank Miriam McKenna and the team at Local Link, who I have been working with on this project, for putting this service in place for the local communities in Fordstown and Cortown,” said Cllr. Bray.

The fare is €4 return and €2 return for under 18 and the Free Travel Pass is accepted.

Miriam McKenna, manager of Flexibus Local said: “The Bohermeen to Navan service was one of the first services operated by Flexibus and has a great following ever since.

“The services is extended to stop at Fordstown Post Office and Cortown. For Flexibus, it is an opportunity to see if this Tuesday and Thursday service is needed in the area.

“Flexibus staff are fully trained and vetted and a friendly face in your community,” she said.

The bus leaves Fordstown Post Office at 9.30am, Cortown at 9.40am, Bohermeen at 9.55am and Navan Shopping Centre at 10.30am, returning home at 1pm.
