Colin Keane moves closer to record

Champion jockey Colin Keane moved on the 121-winner mark for the season when partnering the Noel Meade-trained Cask Mate to victory in a maiden at Bellewstown this evening.

Cask Mate was second in the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle last year and hadn't run since trying a Grade 1 Hurdle at Leopardstown last February.

However, the eight-year-old was finely-tuned for a flat debut today and won convincingly to move Keane to within five winners of equalling Joseph O'Brien's 126 winners in 2013.

Nothing like a home win and that was the case for apprentice Robert Wheraty who partnered the Tom McCourt-trained 33/1 chance Philly’s Hope to victory at his local track.

Whearty had his first winner earlier this year at Bellewstwon and this was his sixth success.

Jockey Robbie Colgan landed his third winner in seven days when partnering a first winner for trainer Brian Duffy with the ex-Gerry Keane trained Mean Fomhair.

There was another Meath success when the Eddie Lynam-trained Tide Of Time landed a handicap with Dylan Browne McMonagle on board while trainer Luke Comer was also on the mark when winning Blyton.
