High-flying Dunboyne hold onto crown

Reigning champions Dunboyne put in a powerhouse performance to defeat Seneschalstown 3-23 to 1-9 in the Ladies SFC final at Pairc Tailteann today.

The game was the curtain-raiser ahead of the men's SFC showdown between Dunboyne and Wolfe Tones.

This was the second successive year Dunboyne have won the title.

Playing against the wind in the opening half Dunboyne still led 0-10 to 0-7 at the interval. Three second-half goals sealed the win.

Fiona O'Neill finished with 1-4, Julie Kavanagh hit 1-2 while Vikki Wall also helped herself to 1-2 while the excellent Emma Duggan bagged eight points, one free.

Shelly Melia (three), Saoirse Quinn (two) and Aoife Thompson (two) were others who pointed for the dominant Dunboyne side.

Wall won the 'Player of the Match' award.

Stacey Grimes scored Seneschalstown's only goal from the penalty spot. The goal was scored just before full-time after Orla Finnegan was brought down.

Mena Sheridan fired over four points for Senschalstown while Kiah Geraghty and Grimes fired over two apiece. Amy Gilsenan also raised a white flag.

Seneschalstown never stopped battling but they needed more to trouble their opponents.
