Broadband Blackspots: What you told us

Darren, Fordstown

"No internet connection in Piercestown, Fordstown, Navan, just three miles from Kells and you just about get a phone signal".

Henrik, Trim

"We were told by Eir service guys that the current copper lines installed over 20 years ago are in very poor shape, and that it’s unlikely that these will be replaced or upgraded to fibre on our laneway.

They actually suggested we go with a wireless option! Have tried this with Imagine and they failed to get a signal from our location. Have also tried a number of mobile 4G options which have been extremely patchy. I have a family with kids, I work from home (IT) so having a good reliable internet connection is essential.

We can barely get by when you combine the requirements of work, online college study and the usual tv/music streaming services. We’re literally at the point where we have to ration and prioritise broadband usage, which is just ridiculous at this point.

Government needs to get their fingers out and do something Now, not in five years with their useless NBP."

Paul, Riverstown, Kilmessan

" Fibre in the house beside us, so annoying!"

Peter, Rathmaiden, Slane

"Our WiFi is non existent! We use a mobile WiFi unit and it is just brutal."

John, Trim

"We live between Trim and Summerhill. We’ve been told by NBI between January 2025 to December 2026. We use a digital broadband provider, it works ok, bit patchy and goes very slow when I’d stay on it a lot on it, it’s very dear for service you get but can’t do anything else.

Cora, Ardcath

"We have fibre broadband all around here but our road has nothing. My son would love to work from home but his internet is just too slow. We seem to be in a black spot at the bottom of a hill!"

Brendan, Crerogue, Kilmessan

"National Broadband Ireland sent an update in December staying they expect to connect us between January 2025 and December 2026. We have been unable to get broadband through any providers so we’re reliant on 4G which has poor reception.

“Makes working from home almost impossible. NBI update means we could be in same situation for a further five years.” years. Ridiculous."
