GAA Round-up: Kilmainham snatch late draw

Late points from Paul Farrelly and Mickey Newman rescued a point for Kilmainham in a A FL Div 2B game last evening. Dunsany scored an early goal and that helped to keep them in front until the closing stages when Kilmainham drew level. Dunsany then went two in front again until Farrelly fired over before Newman converted a free after Larry Morgan was fouled.

That late converted free was Newman's sixth point of the evening while Farrelly helped himself to two scores. Freddie Newman, Conor Kilgallen, Colm McGivern and Mark Newman also contributed to tenacious Kilmainham's tally.

Whatever was said to the Ballinlough boys in this u-17 FT Group G semi-final seemed to have the desired effect as they put in a storming second-half display to defeat Longwood and secure a place in the final on Monday evening. The sides were level 1-7 at the interval but Ballinlough were the better team after the break.

Darren O'Higgins was in fine scoring form for the 'Lough as he registered 2-2 while Brandon Brunton also made a heft scoring contribution with 1-5 while Shane Lynch registered eight points, three frees. Ciaran Ryan also hit two points with Ryan Corcoran another to split the posts. This was a real battling team display from the winners. Next up for Ballinlough is a final encounter against Clann na nGael. The last time these it was an umpires' nightmare with 51 scores between them so further fireworks promised.

Right from the start Oldcastle were in the zone as they took a firm grip on proceedings and powered to victory over Moynalty/Carnaross in this u-17 FT Group B semi-final encounter on Monday evening with Paul Hennessey helping himself to 1-5.

Oldcastle had already provided themselves with a strong platform for victory at the break when they led 2-8 to 0-7 and they added two more goals to their account in the second-half. Fergal Flynn, Bobby Masterson and Rory Crawley also found the net for the winners while Fionn McCabe, Ivan Caroll, Nathan Gibney and Eoin Smith also contributed scores.

Moynalty/Carnaross scored the last four points of the game but by then Oldcastle were already out of sight. This was a fine team display from the winners. Oldcastle now play Donaghmore/Ashbourne in the final.

Navan O'Mahonys really turned on the style to chalk up a big score over Dunboyne in this Camogie League Div 2 encounter at Dunboyne on Monday evening.

The Brews Hill side were already well on their way to victory at the interval when they led 3-3 to 0-5 and they added another 1-3 to their account in the second-half. Isabel O'Connor and Katie Byrne registered 2-2 apiece while Mia McNally lofted over two points for the winners. As well as some super scoring by the forwards, much of the credit for this victory must go to the backs who cleared a lot of dangerous balls. Credit also to Navan O'Mahonys goalkeeper Mags Tompkins who executed some great saves.
