Kells gardener devastated by vandal attack

A KELLS gardening enthusiast, whose garden has been attracting attention for years, has been devastated by a recent vandal attack. Tony Fitzsimons"s garden at his home in Bloomsbury, Kells, is his 'pride and joy' and he has put so much time and money into it, he was distraught to find it destroyed. He awoke on Sunday morning of last week to find that thugs had attacked his garden during the night, ripping up flowers, turning over flower pots and destroying artwork in the garden. A nine-foot-high piece of artwork, which had taken him weeks to create, was among the items damaged by the vandals. 'They broke it off at the plinth and it would have taken a lot of effort to that,' he said. Mr Fitzsimons said it was not the first time his garden was attacked by vandals. 'It has happened several times before and it is so awful to see all my hard work destroyed like this,' he said. 'I find it very hard to live with this. I don"t know what to expect when I get up in the mornings, particularly at weekends. It is happening too often,' he added. Mr Fitzsimon"s garden has been attracting attention for years, with many passing motorists stopping to take a look and to take photographs. 'I have had so many people compliment me on my garden. A lot of people have stopped over the past week to say how annoyed they are at the damage that has been done. The Gardai who came out to investigate it were disgusted as well,' he added.
