Trim man killed in road collision

A man in his 40s was killed in the early hours of yesterday morning after the car he was driving, collided with a wall in the centre of Trim.

He has been named locally as Trim man, Declan Sheridan.

Gardaí are investigating the collision that occurred in the early hours of Monday morning at 1.55am.

The car collided with a wall on Patrick Street.

It is believed the car had come to the attention of Gardai prior to the crash.

Mr Sheridan was seriously injured during the collision. He was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown where he later passed away.

The scene of the collision on Patrick Street remained closed on Monday afternoon as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí in Trim are appealing to any person who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

Any person who was in the vicinity of Patrick Street between 1.30am and 2.00am on Monday morning, including any road users who may have camera footage (including dash cam), is asked to get in touch.

As the car involved in this collision had come to the attention of Gardaí prior to the incident, An Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has been notified.

It has been a grim weekend on our roads with a man in his 70s losing his life in a collision in Co Westmeath on Monday afternoon.

Gardaí at Mullingar are appealing for witnesses following the crash which occurred shortly after 5pm between a lorry and a car on the N4 near Ballinalack.

The driver of the car, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in her 70s, who was a passenger in the car, was airlifted from the scene to Tallaght Hospital. Her condition is understood to be serious.

The driver of the lorry (male 40s) was taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.

The deceased was removed to the mortuary at Mullingar Hospital.

The road at the crash site was closed to traffic in both directions and diversions were in place, while Garda forensic collision investigators were at the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Those with camera footage from the N4 near Ballinalack at the time of the collision are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
