Return of Ballivor Horse Show

After two years of lockdown, Ballivor Horse show makes a welcome return and will this year takes place on 11th and 12th June on Conroy's lands at Coolronan.

It is always an eagerly anticipated event in the local calendar and attracts visitors from across the region to take part in the jumping and showing events.

As usual, there will be all grades of horse and pony showjumping and a huge array of showing and Irish Pony Society classes. The highlight of the weekend is the Grand Prix whihc is held on the Sunday.

Apart from the horses and ponies, there are plenty of other activities taking place through the weekend at what is one of the country's longest running shows. This includes vintage display, trade stands, dog and pet shows, children's races, baby show, teddy bears picnic, sheep shearing and amusements.

Secretary Philomena Lacy said: "We are hoping for a big turn out after the two years. We ae hoping for a huge outing. It is always a big undertaking, this year in particularly to get the ball rolling again. It is our 50th anniversary show and we are delighted to have a new local sponsor Gaelform who are in the former NEC building.

"We will have all the usual faithful who have always supported us down many years as well."

Ballivor Show was first run in 1971 and last year should been its 50th anniversary show, but like many events, it was cancelled due to the pandemic. In the early years, Philomena recalled that all the big riders of they day like Eddie Macken and the late Paul Darragh always came to compete at Ballivor.
