Kingscourt park to link with Navan Greenway
Rural Affairs Minister Heather Humphreys has turned the sod on the new natural play area and off-road trail at Dún na Rí Forest Park.
The masterplan for Dún na Rí was recently on public display and includes many initiatives and objectives to further enhance the popular amenity.
Local councillor Clifford Kelly said: "All of us in Kingscourt are aware of the tremendous asset we have in Dún na Rí Forest Park and I am thrilled to see this exciting project get underway and look forward to the completion of this natural play area and the completion of the off-road trail to Kingscourt. I look forward to more exciting developments for Dún na Rí Forest Park as the masterplan for the park is finalised.
"I also look forward to the linking to Navan along the railway greenway and north to Louth, through Monaghan. This will be of enormous benefit to Kingscourt and these are significant developments for this area.
"The trail route will enhance the existing path and provide new linkages for adjacent communities. Projects such as this have never been more important and since the pandemic, we have seen an explosion in the numbers of people enjoying the outdoors and partaking of our natural assets."
Cllr Kelly said the recently refurbished toilet block is a testament to the hard work being done by Coillte and the investment in this resource which they are undertaking. He also commended the Rural Social Scheme (RSS) workers who are doing such a great job of maintaining the park and who show such pride in their work.
