VIDEO: Spectacular lightning show captured on camera

Mother nature threw a spectacular lightning show last night over Co Meath and large parts of the country.

A nationwide Status Orange warning for thunderstorms lapsed at 9am this morning after widespread thunderstorms across Ireland overnight.

Met Eireann had forecasted that flooding was possible in areas where heavy downpours happen.

A separate Status Orange thunderstorm warning for Munster and counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow comes into effect when the national warning ends at 9am and will be in place until 4pm.

Showers will be intense through the afternoon with the risk of flooding, Met Éireann has said.
