Precious Murray photograph collection launched in Dunshaughlin Library

Meath County Council cathaoirleach Cllr Nick Killian officiated at the launch of The Murray Photograph Collection in Dunshaughlin Library. The photographs on exhibition, from the late 1800s and early 1900s, form part of an extensive collection of images taken by Peadar Murray, founder of the Gaelic League in Dunshaughlin, businessman and husband of Margaret Murray, the first woman to serve on Meath County Council.

On behalf of Meath County Council, the cathaoirleach thanked the Murray family, who were gathered in great number, for their public spirited gesture in consigning Peadar Murray’s glass-plate negatives to the care of Meath County Archive. He remarked that photographs are a crucial and negelected part of the heritage of County Meath, and he concluded his remarks by making a presentation of a framed print, dated 1904, of a Gaelic League class in Dunshaughlin, to Ita Murray, 94 year-old daughter of Peadar Murray.
