More oval ball for Wall?

According to reports in the Irish Independent Meath star Vikki Wall is the focus of an IRFU attempt to convince the 2021 Ladies Footballer of the Year to try her hand at rugby in 2024.

Dunboyne player Wall is currently back in Ireland after a successful Autumn and winter in Australia where she helped the North Melbourne Kangaroos reach the WAFL Preliminary final in just her first year at Aussie Rules.

A clearly talented an exceptional athlete who is capable of turning her hand to most sports Wall's power, pace, game awareness, ball handling and the new skills she picked up in Australian rules football could transfer to rugby.

With a new full-time professional programme in place for Women's Rugby Wall might be tempted to commit to the IRFU after her two-year contract with North Melbourne concludes at the end of the new WAFL season which will resume in August.

It is believed Wall visited the IRFU’s High Performance Centre in Abbottstown earlier this month to watch training and met with senior members of staff including head coach Greg McWilliams.

Talks about a switch are at an early stage, but the union hopes to convince Wall that her future could lie in rugby.

Despite rumours that she would miss Meath's defence of their All-Ireland SFC title next summer, 24-year-old Wall revealed that she intends to play for the Royal county this year as they bid for a third senior title in succession.
