Park and ride facility at Garlow Cross nears completion

Work on a new park and ride car park at Garlow Cross which will provide 50 spaces for commuters is virtually complete.

An existing Meath County Council car park located on the northern side of the Bellinter Road is being relocated to a new landscaped car park to the south of the road, to accommodate 50 spaces which will be accessed from the existing entrance on the L2201 Bellinter Road which has been upgraded.

Cllr Tommy Reilly welcomed the new car park for commuters saying it is badly needed. "People are still having to park on the side of the road because they cant get in the small car park that is there. This is a fantastic opportunity for people using public transport and will provide safe and secure parking with public lighting."

The new car park was granted planning permission as part of a wider planning application for the Tara na Rí premises by JPC Partnership, which was granted in 2020. JPC Partnership is proposing to demolish the existing two-storey Tara na Rí pub and shop and replace it with a building with a similar footprint and layout. Two existing outhouses will be retained and refurbished to provide a restaurant and public bar, shop and holiday accommodation of seven ensuite guest bedrooms.

The existing stable buildings and barn will be demolished and replaced with new buildings to provide a function room, and holiday accommodation with 12 ensuite guest bedrooms and three dormitories. The existing bungalow will be refurbished internally for use as short term holiday accommodation.

Also part of the plans is the relocation of the existing Meath County Council Park and Ride car park accommodating 13 spaces on the northern side of the L2201 County road/R147 Regional Road junction to a new landscaped car park, to the south of the L2201, accommodating 50 spaces.

A proposed car park will operate as a park and ride facility for commuters accessing public transport on the R147, and visitors to the proposed development during off-peak hours.

A further 34 car parking spaces dedicated to the proposed retail, restaurant bar and tourist accommodation, and coach drop off and three coach parking spaces, will be located on the northern side of the L2201 county road.
