Large gathering of former Meath players expected for Reynolds book launch

There's an open invitation to the launch 'Reynolds A Family Memoir', the book that outlines the lives and careers of father and son Pat and Paddy Reynolds.

The launch is on Friday 26th May in Walterstown GAA club @8pm. Well known GAA commentator, Brendan Cummins will be MC, and Sean Boylan is Guest of Honour.

It is expected that the launch will included the largest gathering of Meath All-Ireland winning footballers (in the one place at the one time) from the 60s, 80s and 90s - and there is an open invitation to all supporters to attend and celebrate the Reynolds' family and the great Meath teams of the past.

The Reynolds family were determined to hold the launch at the Walterstown GFC clubhouse, the centre of the local community, and a large number of Meath footballers from the past are expected to attend.

The duo played for Walterstown and Meath and tasted success at both and inter-county levels. They are also part of a family that became one of the largest potato producers in the country. Incidents from the two men's careers in farming are also recounted.

Pat helped Meath win the Sam Maguire in 1967. He also toured Australia with the Meath panel the following year and won an All-Star in 1971.

He was involved in helping Walterstown move up the ranks too. He was involved as the Blacks won Junior and Intermediate football championships before the big prize was claimed in 1978 - the Meath SFC - the first time the club won the senior crown.

Paddy harvested All-Ireland SFC medals with Meath in 1996 and '99 and also won an All-Star award.

Both players recall chapters from the careers, both in football and farming, and outline how they overcame the many challenges they faced to become All-Ireland winning stars.

The book was written with Meath Chronicle sports reporter Jimmy Geoghegan and is published by Hero Books. It is part of the company's Flesh and Blood series.

The chief driving force behind Hero Books is Liam Hayes, the All-Star midfielder who All-Ireland medals with Meath in 1987 and '88 when Pat Reynolds was a selector.
