Alan Tobin elected Cathaoirleach of Ashbourne Municipal Council

Fine Gael's Cllr Alan Tobin was elected cathaoirleach of Ashbourne Municipal Council at this morning's annual meeting of the council.

Cllr Tobin was proposed for the role by his Fine Gael colleague, Cllr Suzanne Jamal ,and had the support of Fianna Fail's, Cllr Conor Tormey and Independent councillor, Amanda Smith. He takes over from Cllr Smith, who has been chair for the past year.

Cllr Tormey was elected leas Cathaoirleach.

Cllr Tobin had been chair of the Ashbpurne district from 2019 to 2020.

Cllr Tobin is really looking forward to the year ahead. "It means an awful lot ot me to serve the town and people, where I grew up.

"I hope that I can be a positive influence ."

Cllr Tobin is particularly looking forward to the completion of the new skate park in Ashburne, the playground in Stamullen as well as two social housing projects in the district.

"I would also like to see some progress on the public park for Ashbourne," he said.
