Ratoath sweep the boards at Leinster Athletics awards

ATHLETICS

The Leinster Star Awards were presented at the Leinster Championships in Tullamore over the weekend where Ratoath AC sweep all before them in the club awards.

Leinster Athletics present awards each year to the best male and female juvenile in each county for their outstanding performance in the 2022 Leinster Championships and this year both Meath recipients were Ratoath AC athletes Laura Kelly and Darragh Masterson.

Leinster Awards were also presented to the top Leinster clubs in the Championship and Ratoath AC won all four awards available for the best Leinster track and field club of the year.

This was unprecedented for a club to take all four awards and also both the male and female county athlete of the year awards.

The awards were testament to the tremendous work and dedication put into the club by the club coaches and athletes.

A massive achievement for a club from a village in Meath with very limited facilities to take all four top Leinster awards.

BOHERMEEN

Bohermeen athletes did well at last weekend’s Leinster juvenile track championships, which took place over two long days at Tullamore, the club gold medal winning performance came from Lauren Duffy.

Duffy has really emerged as an athlete with fine potential this season, having recently won an individual silver at the Leinster juniors in Carlow two weeks ago.

On Sunday the high jumps were delayed due to heavy rainfalls, in stark contrast to Saturday when athletes were scorched at the venue.

On Sunday Duffy showed great composure to win her first gold medal at provincial level clearing 1.60 metres and will now contest the Nationals in a few weeks.

In total club athletes won seven medals including one gold, five silver and one bronze.

Taking the silver medals were Beth Miskelly in the girls under 19 Javelin and shot putt, Eoin Coldrick took silver in the boys under 19 200mts, Danu McGann won her silver in the girls under 15 javelin posting a new PB of 28.40m.

Emma Hunt made it three successive silver medals in a row at Tullamore as she placed second in both the Leinster and All Ireland schools under 16 mile and on Satutrday won her silver in the girls under 16 1500m posting a new PB of 4:54.17 and the single bronze medal was won by Eoin Coldrick in the boys under 19 400m.

Also, in action at Tullamore and making the top ten in their respective events were Inga McGann (girls under 14 girls javelin), Niall Rogan (boys under 15800m) and Eoghan Rogers (boys under 15 1500m).
