Eddie Fennessy re-elected Mayor of Navan

Cllr Eddie Fennessy, was re-elected Mayor of Navan, at a meeting of Navan Municipal Council this morning.

The Sinn Fein councillor has just completed a term of office as Mayor of the town.

Cllr Fennessy was proposed by Cllr Tommy Reilly and seconded by Cllr Francis Dean.

Cllr Reilly paid tribute to Cllr Fennessy for the amount of work, he got through as Mayor.

Cllr Fennessy thanked his colleagues for their continued support.

"We worked well as a team together last year and it made it easier to deliver a number of key infrastructural projects in Navan.

"I'd also like to thank my family for their continued support, particularly my wife, Lynn and my son, Ned and I'd also like to thank my colleagues in Sinn Féin, Caoimhe Sloan, Eileen Sheils, Mark O'Halloran, Mickey Gallagher, Darren O'Rourke and Seamus Lynch to name but a few.

"Trojan work they carry out behind the scenes, makes my job a lot easier.

"I'd also like to mention some colleagues who are no longer with us but who influence what I do every day,

"Former councillors Joe Reilly and Ann Gibney, Paddy Rattigan, Dan Murphy, Noel Lightholder and Sean Brady"

He said very few people are bestowed with the honour and responsibility of Mayoral office.

"Fewer still, a second term. I am privileged and very grateful for this opportunity

"In my acceptance speech last year I promised to be a Mayor for all. I did my best to achieve that by working with as many groups and people as possible to deliver real change for ordinary workers and families across Navan.

"I make that same commitment today and I look forward to the year ahead. My priority as always is to work with the council to deliver quality services, infrastructure and investment in our communities.

"A number of key projects are under construction in the town at the moment and others will commence this year. When completed, they will transform Navan into a modern vibrant town - a place that people will want to live, work and do business in.

"As your Mayor, I will work with the council to deliver that transformation. Together, we will deliver for the people," he said.

Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons was elected Deputy Mayor. He said he was looking forward to working with his colleagues.

"We are lucky that we have the level of investment we have at the moment in the town and look forward to the delivery of that infrastructure."

Director Of Services, Martin Murray congratulated both Cllr Fennessy and Fitzsimons and said he looked forward to co-operating with them again.
