India Ambassador marks International Day of Yoga in Trim
The Ambassador of India to Ireland, Akhilesh Mishra, was in Trim to mark International Day of Yoga (IDY), where he was welcomed by outgoing chairperson of the Trim Municipal District, Cllr Joe Fox.
Welcoming the participants joining the celebration, IDY 2023 organiser Aparna Shukla highlighted the unifying force of yoga, its benefits and how the International Day of Yoga has become part of the Trim's annual calendar.
The programme comprised four yoga sessions by Paula Mitten, Christine Dunworth, Aparna Shukla, and Kamila Lukaszewicz and Gregory Jackson, at Trim Castle.
Ambassador Mishra said: "Yoga is part of ancient Indian wisdom, the world view founded on the inner realisation and vision of our interconnected and interdependent existence. The Indian sages stressed a broader, inclusive concept of harmony, encompassing harmony among bodily senses, mind and soul in a human being and harmony between humanity and the natural ecosystem.
Prashant Shukla, chairman of Ireland India Council, welcomed the participants and dignitaries at the event. He also highlighted "the physical and mental health benefits of yoga practice. Mr Shukla suggested the incorporation of yoga into the school curriculum in Irish schools.
Sanatana Balagokulam children presented a unique Sanskrit Mantra chant. The Noopur Nada Group presented an impressive dance performance of classical Indian dance to welcome the dignitaries. Mangla Rajesh and Guruprasad Bhat also chanted the Sanskrit Shlokas.
The Ireland India Council organises its annual international yoga event in Meath each year in collaboration with yoga organisations, studios, and yoga enthusiasts across Ireland. The Office of Public Works (OPW) and Meath County Council supported the event.
