St Joseph’s Primary School’s expansion project begins

A sod-turning on a new building project at St Joseph’s Mercy Primary School, Navan, took place just before the schools broke for summer.

The first phase of construction involves a two-storey extension onto the assembly hall. The assembly hall was built in 1966 as part of a major extension and reconstruction project. The second phase involves the refurbishment of the existing building, built by the Delaney brothers in 1910. Much of the structure of the original building will be retained in the refurbishment. The final phase of the build involves the removal of the prefabs at the rear of the school and the landscaping of the grounds. It is expected that the build will take around 26 months to complete, and the school will remain on site during the build. The work will be carried out by Ganson Building and Civil Engineering Ltd.

Principal Ann Murphy says: "We are all very excited in St Joseph’s Mercy Primary School to be embarking on such an exciting project. We look forward to working with Ganson on this project in conjunction with MCOH architects and the design team. We acknowledge the work undertaken by previous principals and boards of management in bringing our project to construction stage. We look forward greatly to the completion of our build which will serve and benefit generations of children to come and continue the great Mercy tradition of the delivery of excellence in education for the children in our community."
