Delight...Meath manager Colm O'Rourke with Sean Boylan.

'Chariot racing, spear throwing and pig wrestling...a bit like Dunderry on Saturday night!'

Colm O'Rourke savoured Meath's Tailteann Cup triumph in Corke Park yesterday especially the Royal County's connections with the historic Tailteann Games once held in the county, comparing the historic sporting tests with the activity of one Meath village on a weekend night.

The Royals secured their first silverware since winning the Leinster title back in 2010 as they saw off the Mourne men by five points at Croke Park.

"It was a great performance and we're all happy to see Donal Keogan who has given such service to Meath go up the steps of the stand to collect a cup and a Tailteann Cup which has a lot of resonance in Meath. The Tailteann Games were held in Meath, where you had chariot racing, spear throwing or pig wrestling...a bit like Dunderry on a Saturday night!

O'Rourke went on to heap credit on his developing squad. "These are a great bunch of lads, I think it will give them a taste to want to go on to better things and of course it guarantees us that were going to play in the All-Ireland series next year and these are a hungry team and they're going to want more.!"

"It'll be great to look forward to tonight and as the poet Horace said when he was asked what he was going to do after Cleopatra was beaten by the Romans, he said "nunc est bibendum".

He suggested those not versed in Latin consult 'Jimmy Google' (We did, it means let the drinking begin!)
