Larry Fay with the trophy after his high-quality and consistent performance at the Irish Open in Co Limerick.

Fay shoots for the stars and lands All-Ireland crown

Winning an All-Ireland title at any level in any sport is no easy feat but Larry Fay managed to do just that recently.

The man from Drumconrath claimed top prize at the Irish Clay Target Shooting Association's (ICTSA) Irish Open Sporting Championship.

It's the kind of competition that requires extremely high levels of concentration and accuracy but Fay showed the required temperment and skills to finish ahead of a very competitive field.

Fay has been shooting competitively since he was 16. He represented Meath and Ireland clay shooting teams on multiple occasions. He has also captained the Irish Sporting team in 2019.

The Irish Open took place at the Lazy Dog Shooting grounds in Ballylanders, Co Limerick in July.

There were over 230 entries over the weekend's competition from all over Ireland. The format of the competition was 120 targets shot over 15 stands with four pairs of targets at each stand.

Larry Fay's winning score was 107 ex 120 with local man Ian O Sullivan following closely on 106.

Another Meath competitor - Peter Hanifin from Trim - finished in sixth place overall.
