Maguire gets ready for next international assignment

Golfer Eddie Maguire continues his quest for international honours when he takes part in a forthcoming tournament in Sweden.

Eddie, who lives outside Navan, and who played Gaelic football at senior level for his native Mayo as well as Carlow and Meath, is back on the golf circuit after a major hip, thigh injury.

He has been selected on a three-person team to represent Ireland at the inaugural Scandinavian Blind Golf Open.

Golfers from 15 countries will tee it up at the Sollentuna Golf Club just outside Stockholm. The event is from Sunday 13th August to Thursday 17th August.

Last year Eddie - who has brought out the 'Less Stress, More Success' series of books to help students - received a civic award from Meath Co Council.

In 2022 also he claimed silverware when he finished second in the Spanish Blind Golf Open at Centro Nacional de Golf in Madrid.

He was joined other members of the Irish Blind Golf team including captain Pat Morgan Jnr, Paddy Power and Adrian Downey. The team was accompanied by their guides, Pat Morgan Snr, Davey Barden, Pat Cockburn and Tommy Geraghty.

He accepts it may be difficult for him to finish in the top three in Stockholm but as ever he will be going all out to give his best for his country.
