VIDEO: 'Land, land, land!'... Bohermeen school's delight as Coast Guard Rescue 116 makes spectacular visit

It was an historic, inspirational and uplifting morning in St Ultans NS, Bohermeen as the school welcomed the Irish Coastguard (Rescue 116) helicopter to great fanfare and delight.

Leaving Dublin Airport at 9.45am, Bohermeen didn't quite know what had hit it with the first sightings of Rescue 116 some 10 minutes later!

Circling the school to the chants of 'land, land, land!', the excitement reached fever pitch as the helicopter and the 4-strong crew landed safely in the centre of the school pitch! The crew chatted with the children about their experiences on search and rescue missions before showing the awe-struck children (and staff!) the aircraft up close.

"It was terrific to see so many people from the parish there to witness the spectacle and thanks to all those who helped on the morning," said principal James Brennan.

"A special word of thanks to Sarah & Martin Kavanagh, parents in the school, who made the introductions to make the special day possible. Thank you also to Ciaran Murphy of Rescue 113 for planning all the logistics in advance with the school. It was wonderful to get an insight into the selfless and critically important work the Irish Coastguard undertake for their country every day. Heroes one and all!"
