Navan O’Mahony’s made it two wins and a draw in the Meath Camogie Championship at Paddy O'Brien Park on Tuesday evening with a comfortable 1-14 to 0-3 win over Kilmessan’s second string outfit. In spite of a slow start, the Brews Hill outfit were able to drive on in the second half.

The scoring opened within a couple of minutes of the throw-in with a point from Ailbhe Leahy, followed shortly afterwards by a point by Jorja Keogh. The visitors didn’t score until the tenth minute, but took the lead in the seventeenth minute with three scores in a row.

Navan O’Mahony’s had a lot of possession in this time but a number of balls into the danger zone were cleared to safety as well as a number of wides.

With ten minutes to go, corner forward Lauren Woods equalised and a Cara Ratty point gave Navan O’Mahonys the lead once again after twenty-three minutes. Looking like there’d be the bare minimum between the sides, an injury time point from Keogh left two points between the sides at the interval, Navan O’Mahonys 0-5 Kilmessan 0-3.

Navan O’Mahonys got out of the blocks a lot quicker in the second half and built on the small lead that they had built in the first half. Keogh opened the scoring with a point from a free. Within two minutes of the resumption, Woods was through on goal and rattled the net, setting the spark that got Navan O’Mahonys going.

Three points from Keogh in a five minute period put distance between the sides and left Navan O’Mahonys firmly in control of the game. A point from Leahy from play in the tenth minute put an end to the high-scoring period and ten minutes passed without score.

Woods opened up the scoring again in the twenty-second minute, followed by an impressive score from Annie Hogan. Substitute Grace Cahill also pointed and an injury time point from Woods saw out the scoring.

As well as adding 1-09 in the second half, Navan O’Mahonys managed to keep the visitors scoreless in the second half and so emerged as comfortable winners against Kilmessan’s second side.
