Athy 12

Balreask Old, Navan (H/T: 22-7)

Navan Women's 1st's had their second League game of the season welcoming Athy to Balreask Old. The weather was going to make this a very tight affair with a lot of pressure on the forwards for set piece. Athy were first to strike, nabbing a try in the first two minutes and securing the extra two.

Navan settled into the game. Some strong carries from the forward pack gave Navan an excellent platform to launch their attack. ๐™†๐™–๐™ฎ๐™ก๐™š๐™ž๐™œ๐™ ๐˜พ๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ managed to draw in to two players to release ๐˜ผ๐™ก๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ฃ๐™– ๐˜พ๐™–๐™›๐™›๐™ง๐™š๐™ฎ with the winger crashing over in the left corner. Caffrey, fresh from her try scoring duties collected the restart, carried strong up the pitch. Navan resourced their ruck, giving ๐™‹๐™–๐™ช๐™ก๐™– ๐™†๐™š๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ quick ball.

Her crisp passing released ๐™€๐™ข๐™ž๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™…๐™ค ๐™’๐™๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™š who evaded her defender and found herself in space, racing up the pitch. With Navan on the attack ๐™๐™ค๐™จ๐™ž๐™š ๐™Ž๐™š๐™–๐™ง๐™ก๐™š nabbed Navanโ€™s second try of the day, diving from close range.

๐™„๐™จ๐™–๐™—๐™š๐™ก๐™ก๐™š ๐˜ฝ๐™ง๐™š๐™ง๐™š๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ฃ sliced through the Athy defence after excellent carries from the pack, collecting her third try of the campaign.

The engine room of ๐™€๐™ข๐™ข๐™– ๐™‡๐™ค๐™ค๐™—๐™ฎ and ๐™ˆ๐™–๐™ž๐™ง๐™š๐™–๐™™ ๐˜พ๐™–๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™ฎ worked tirelessly throughout the afternoon to create space. Edging closer to half-time Navan were hoping to benefit from their possession and White collected the fourth try of the day.

๐˜ผ๐™ค๐™ž๐™›๐™š ๐™๐™ฎ๐™–๐™ฃ got her name on the scoring sheet with her conversion. The strong wind picked up in the second half, Athy benefitting from it. Even with many forced changes from both sides defence stayed strong with neither team conceding ground.

Athy broke the deadlock with their winger dotting dot after a prolonged period of pressure. With the time ticking away the Navan scrum gave dynamic No 8 ๐™๐™ค๐™จ๐™ž๐™š ๐™Ž๐™š๐™–๐™ง๐™ก๐™š a platform to release ๐™ˆ๐™ค๐™ก๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ฏ๐™œ๐™š๐™ง๐™–๐™ก๐™™ for the final try of the game, in the last play of the game.

At the final whistle Navan were delighted to collect maximum points against an experienced Athy side.

Birr 5

Balreask Old, Navan (H/T: 17-5)

Navan Women's J1/2nd's had their first game of their League campaign on Sunday the 24th of September after last weeks walkover over Louth County. It was a wet welcome to Navan for Birr. Birr were first to strike with a try. This spurred the Navan team into action. Winger ๐™…๐™š๐™จ๐™จ ๐™ˆ๐™ค๐™ง๐™ž๐™–๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™ฎ opened her scoring account with a try in the left corner. This was only possible by the work of the forward pack giving some very good front foot ball. The backs managed to move the ball across the pitch for Moriarty to sneak in in the left corner.

๐˜ผ๐™ž๐™จ๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™†๐™š๐™ก๐™ก๐™ฎ was next to strike for a score for Navan. Her solo effort is a contender for try of the season. Kelly collected a restart in her own 22m. She took it to the line and backed her footballing skills with a chip over the top. The bounce of the ball was in her favour and she ran in under the posts unopposed. ๐™‡๐™š๐™–๐™ ๐™ˆ๐™ค๐™ง๐™ง๐™ž๐™จ opened her account, adding to the Navan scoreline, leaving it 12-5.

In advance of half time ๐˜พ๐™ž๐™–๐™ง๐™– ๐™†๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™™๐™ฎ managed the pack, working them around the field, with strong carries from ๐˜พ๐™๐™š๐™ก๐™จ๐™š๐™– ๐™ˆ๐™˜๐™‚๐™ง๐™ค๐™–๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™ฎ, ๐™Ž๐™–๐™ง๐™–๐™ ๐™Š'๐˜ฝ๐™ง๐™ž๐™š๐™ฃ and ๐™๐™–๐™ง๐™– ๐™Œ๐™ช๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ฃ. ๐˜ผ๐™—๐™—๐™ž๐™š ๐™๐™๐™ค๐™ง๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ฃ gave the home side a half time scoring advantage of 17-5 getting her first try of the season. The back three for Navan making use of the space provided to them by their strong pack led by ๐™‰๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง ๐™†๐™๐™–๐™ž๐™ง๐™ฎ.

Rolling into the second half Navan continued in their groove, with a strong gust behind them, remained camped in the Birr 22 for a long period of time. Unfortunately, Navan had two tries held up over the line, ๐™‡๐™ค๐™ช๐™ž๐™จ๐™š ๐™€๐™ก๐™ก๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฉ๐™ฉ and Khairy. Birr worked their way down the pitch however ๐™ˆ๐™ž๐™˜๐™๐™š๐™ก๐™ก๐™š ๐™Ž๐™ฉ๐™–๐™›๐™›๐™ค๐™ง๐™™ on her debut for Navan hit a beautiful 50:22 to give Navan a foot hold back in the Birr 22. Morris managed the game from 10, directing the play and getting Navan into the right areas.

At the final whistle Navan were delighted to collect maximum points against a strong Birr side who had in particular excellent attacking centres.
