MacNamee award a huge honour for Meath club

The chairperson and PRO of Walterstown GFC Ruth Chambers says the club are delighted to have been awarded a prestigious MacNamee Award and she thanks all those who were involved in making it happen.

The Award is certainly a huge honour for the club. Sustaining a strong media presence is one of the cornerstones of any progressive outfit and members of the Walterstown have worked hard to highlight the achievements of their members.

They have set high standards for others to follow.

"The club are thrilled to have been chosen by the GAA as the 2022 MacNamee Award winners for Digital Impact," Chambers told the Meath Chronicle.

"Digitally highlighting all that is good about Walterstown, be it our players, our coaches, our volunteers and our members, has been an absolute pleasure.

"There is immense work being done by so many at our club and, for our PR Committee, it has been, and will continue to be, our pleasure to promote it online. In 2022 the club's PR Committee consisted of myself, as PRO, Alicia Reynolds and Dave Clarke and we all brought different dimensions to the table but also worked really well together as a team.

"I concentrated on graphic design, marketing, photography, content creation and social media management, while Alicia works, night after night, taking and editing photographs. We have thousands upon thousands of stock photography images of our players because of her work and that allows us to promote the club so positively online.

"Then, of course, Dave Clarke brought a whole new dimension to Walterstown with his incredible video shooting and editing skills. His foresight and knowledge in both the use of video creation hardware and software upped our game to a whole different level."

The Walterstown chairperson and PRO highlighted the importance for a club to use whatever media outlets available to them to communicate with the wider public.

"In today's landscape, it is paramount to have a strong digital presence to recruit, retain and promote a club. And our club has reaped huge benefits from building a strong digital 'brand'.

"We have seen a huge increase in membership and an equally strong increase in sponsorship revenue as a result. Engagement and reach across social media in our core community in Johnstown and Walterstown, in particular, has been phenomenal and we are constantly striving to grow such insights.

"The digital landscape is constantly changing and with additions to the club, such as our new scoreboard, we hope to grow our club even further from a membership perspective and from a commercial perspective."
